James Calvin Bembury of the 800 block of Waltham St., a retired pipefitter, died July 3, 1995, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Mr. Bembury was a native of Edenton, N.C., son of the late James H. and Emma Jane Bembury. He was retired from the Norfolk Naval Base after 34 1/2 years and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church, Eureka Lodge, Men of the Round Table.
Survivors include his wife, Iona R. Bembury of the home; a daughter, Sharon B. Burnley of Norfolk; four sons, Percy White of Washington, D.C., James R. Bembury of Chesapeake, Alvin R. Bembury Sr. of Virginia Beach and Cecil R. Bembury Sr. of Maryland; two sisters, Ethel Hill of Norfolk and Delores Laws of Baltimore; brothers, George Bembury of Edenton and Moses T. Bembury of Levittown, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Friday in New Calvary Baptist Church, 800 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., by the Rev. G.G. Campbell. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Riddick Funeral Service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The body will be placed in church at 11 a.m. Friday.
