HENRY F. MATHEWS

Henry Frelen Mathews, 73, of the 300 block of Carawan Lane, died Tuesday, July 4, 1995, in a nursing home.

Mr. Mathews was born in Russell County, Va., and was the son of the late Frazier J. and Madgie Daughton Mathews. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II. Mr. Mathews had retired from Berkley Machine Works as a machinist and shipping clerk after 34 years of service. He was a past member of American Legion, Post 280, Great Bridge.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Adkins Mathews; five daughters, Bettie Newman, Rita Hillard and Pamela Buchholtz, all of Chesapeake, Joyce Williamson of Hampton and Martha Stewart of Elizabeth City; four sons, Larry Mathews, Kenneth Mathews and Randy Mathews, all of Chesapeake and Roger Mathews of Norfolk; five sisters, Pearl Cornwell of Bluefield, Va., Catherine Asbury of Lebanon, Va., Nora Hill of North Carolina, Kansas Adkins of Virginia Beach and Ella McDonald of Commerce, Ga.; four brothers, Glen Mathews of Barren Spring, Va., William Mathews and Luther Mathews, both of Chilhowie, Va., and Paul Mathews of Wytheville, Va.; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, by the Rev. Ernest Trueblood. Entombment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
