Lt. Stephen Douglas Byrd, USN, 38, of the 2000 block of Springside Court, died July 5, 1995, in his residence.
Lt. Byrd was born in Fayetteville, N.C., and was an administrative officer-Assault Craft Unit-4 at Little Creek Amphibious Base.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley A. Byrd; a daughter, Alexis Byrd and a son, Ryan Byrd, both of Virginia Beach; father and stepmother, William D. and Sharon Byrd of Newport News; a sister, Catherine Byrd of Virginia Beach; five brothers, W. Dan Byrd and J. Mark Byrd, both of Virginia Beach, Wade E. Byrd and Richard A. Byrd, both of Fayetteville and David R. Byrd of Fredericksburg, Iowa.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Little Creek Amphibious Base Chapel by Chaplain Ann Krekelburg. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
