James Wesley Byrum Sr., 77, of 117 Hunters Trail East, died Thursday, July 6, 1995, at Albemarle Hospital.
He was a native of Perquimans County and an executive for Union Oil Co., where he worked for 38 years. He was a member of Hertford Baptist Church and a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was the son of the late Edward A. and Pattie Jordan Byrum and the husband of Vera Ann Miller Byrum of the home.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. James (Karen) McMahon of Herndon, Va.; a son, James W. Byrum Jr. of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; a sister, Dorris White of Hertford, N.C.; two brothers, Edward A. Byrum Jr. of Norfolk and William Percy Byrum of Virginia Beach; and two grandchildren, Michael Byrum of Fayetteville, N.C., and Dale McMahon of Herndon, Va.
The graveside service will be conducted at Old Hollywood Cemetery at 2 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. Keith Vaughn. The family will receive friends at Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, today from 7 to 8 p.m. and other times at the residence. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the church of one's choice.
