Staff writer Betsy Wright is again guilty of liberally interpreting the Bible. Her deep-rooted distaste for fundamental ``believe it if it's in the Book'' Christians has again been revealed through her latest attack on Governor Allen. First she questions his recent political maneuvering by calling him ``childish'' and ``dumb'' (``Judge not, lest ye be judged''?). Then she misinterpreted his comment that, ``They'll have to heal thyselves,'' directed toward imprisoned sex offenders.
Defending the reduction of taxpayer funding of rehabilitating programs for such offenders, Allen echoes one of the central themes of the Bible: that God offers to heal the heart of individuals who make a personal commitment to know and follow him. Without this commitment, all the money in the world can't heal their hearts.
These programs aren't getting results, so why waste the money? Why not purchase a Bible for all of the prisoners instead, then encourage them to fellowship and spiritual growth?
