I-264 TIED UP FOR HOURS

Traffic heading into downtown on Interstate 264 was brought to near standstill for almost two hours Friday night after a vehicle towing a trailer partially ran off a railroad overpass.

Details of the accident, which happened about 9:30 p.m., were sketchy late Friday.

The accident occurred in the westbound lanes of I-264 about halfway between Military Highway and downtown.

Only one lane of traffic was open as state police attempted to clear the road. Traffic was backed up to Military Highway, which was the first point where motorists on I-264 - at least those not in the express lanes - could turn off to alternate routes to avoid the tie-up.

The cause of the accident was unclear late Friday.
