SUFFOLK - CITY COUNCIL ACTIONS

City Council meetings are telecast live beginning at 7 p.m. on Municipal Access TV/Channel 13 on Falcon Cable. Telecast is repeated at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. The work session on the fourth Wednesday is taped and aired at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. the following Thursday through Sunday.

The City Council took the following actions at its meeting Wednesday:

Councilman Richard R. Harris made a motion to add a $741,000 sewer project for West Haven Lakes subdivision to the budget. Approved 4-3

Council then considered how to fund the capital projects. A motion was made to use a portion of the city's utility fund and school sinking fund. Approved 5-2

A motion was made to decide the form of the bond used to fund the West Haven Lakes sewer project. Approved 5-2

Consideration of Projects for the Community Development Block Grant Program Approved 5-2

An ordinance accepting and appropriating a grant award of $3,000 from the Virginia Department of Emergency Services for ``Exercise Display Select '95'' - Second Reading. Approved 7-0

An ordinance to appropriate a grant award of $3,750 from the Virginia Commission for the Arts for fiscal year 1995-96. First Reading

An ordinance to appropriate a grant award of $200,541 from the Library of Virginia for the Suffolk Public Library System. First Reading

An ordinance appropriating $42,594 for the Victim Witness Assistance program. First Reading

An ordinance appropriating $33,599 for Drug Enforcement and Prosecution by the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney. First Reading

A resolution opposing the closing of the Veterans' Affairs Office in downtown Suffolk. Approved 7-0

A resolution requesting that the Virginia Department of Transportation make the necessary repairs and improvements and perform routine maintenance to Monticello View Road. Approved 7-0

Resolution declaring that a public necessity exists for the construction and maintenance of 4-lane divided roadway and associated permanent and temporary easements, in and on certain real estate owned by Robert E. Griffin, et al, and to authorize the taking of said real estate by condemnation. Approved, 7-0

Resolution requesting the Commonwealth Transportation Board to return the Route 58 Southwest Bypass back to its original schedule and accelerate the stated objectives in the fiscal year 95-96 Six Year Improvement Program. Approved, 7-0

Consider authorizing a contribution of $5,000 for the production of the 1995-96 Suffolk Business Guide. Approved 7-0

Establish a City Council Work Session for Wednesday, July 19, 1995 at 5 p.m. unless cancelled. Approved 7-0
