I read with disbelief that Representatives Bateman, Pickett, Scott and Sisisky voted against an amendment that would abolish elevator operators for the automatic elevators in House office buildings. The reason given was that operators help lawmakers get to the floor in time to vote.
U.S. representatives conduct our nation's business. Consequently, I think they can make it to the House floor without someone else pushing the elevator buttons for them. This is the type of government waste that should be eliminated before cutting the first dollar from any entitlement program.
