DRUGS AND BASEBALL

Lee Brown, White House drug-policy director, says, ``The Yankees have struck out by signing Darryl Strawberry. They are sending the worst possible message to the youth of America.''

Strawberry has evaded paying taxes, abused his wife and twice failed drug tests for cocaine. Steve Howe, who has violated this so-called drug policy seven times - yes, that is seven times - is also on this Yankee team.

To forgive is one thing, but this is ridiculous.

Baseball attendence is dropping every day. Do they think this move will pick it up? Baseball is a ship without a rudder.
