ALBERT O. FLOYD SR.

LCDR Albert O. Floyd Sr., 71, a Florida native, retired Navy officer, retired Virginia Beach City Schools Administrator, devoted husband, father and grandfather, and servant of God went to live with his maker on July 8, 1995.

Notable achievements include enlistment in the U.S. Navy in 1941 with service in the Guadalcanal Campaign during WWII. Following education at Tulane University, he was commissioned in 1947 and served aboard the USS Floyd B. Parks and USS Elokomin. Having served as ordinance officer in Seal Beach, CA, and Port Townsend, WA., he then assisted in the development of the Japan Self-Defense Forces being stationed in Sasebo and Tokyo, Japan. He retired in 1966 from the U.S. Atlantic Fleet in Norfolk, VA., completing 26 years of service.

With Virginia Beach City Public Schools, he first taught at Seatack Elementary. He helped to implement the Assistant Principal program on the elementary level, serving as Community School Consultant at Seatack Elementary School. He later retired as Assistant Principal of Kemps Landing Intermediate School in 1987 with 18 years of service.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge (NU)76 of Apalachicola, FL.

His commitment to God was evident in his service as teacher, deacon and elder at Aragona Church of Christ in Va. Beach.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret C. Floyd of Va. Beach; a son, Albert O. Floyd Jr. of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Margaret F. Wolfred of Va. Beach; his mother, Margaret T. Floyd of Apalachicola, FL; a sister, Elsie F. Emery of Tallahassee, FL; a brother A.P. Floyd of Tallahassee, FL; and three grandchildren, Ashley K. Floyd, Jason T. Floyd and Benjamin B. Wolfred.

A funeral service will be conducted at Aragona Church of Christ, 517 N. Witchduck Road, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, 1995, by William Campbell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Aragona Church of Christ Building Fund. You may visit with the Floyd family at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. A graveside service will be held later in the week in Apalachicola, FL.
