In Ricky Wright's review of the Hampton Jazz Festival, (June 26), he thoroughly panned the magnificent performances of Cleo Laine and John Dankworth with The Duke Ellington Orchestra.
Mr. Wright's accusations were read with no small amount of shock.
Ms. Laine is one of the world's greatest jazz vocalists and her husband, John, is a well-respected saxophonist and professor at The Royal Academy of Music in London.
At no point in the show was the band's ``momentum'' lost, and at no point in the show was Cleo Laine ``unconvincing.''
Quite the contrary.
