The School Board recently hired new principals for Maury High and Rosemont Middle schools, the latest among 11 schools that Superintendent Roy D. Nichols Jr. has tapped to start school this fall with new faces at the helm.
Taking over at Maury will be Michael C. Spencer, a Ghent resident who during the past school year was principal of Hunt-Mapp Middle School in Portsmouth. He is a former high school math teacher and administrator in Portsmouth schools.
Spencer will replace retiring Maury principal Jake Slaughter.
Stepping in at Rosemont Middle will be Melanie R. Yules, who finished this past school year as assistant principal at Booker T. Washington High, a position she has held since 1991. Yules previously was a coordinator of special education for Norfolk schools.
The Rosemont position had been offered to Robert J. Grant, an assistant principal at Blair Middle, but Grant has accepted a job as principal of a high school in Southwest Virginia. by CNB
