SNACKWELL'S ISN'T just cookies and crackers anymore. Nabisco has introduced SnackWell's Nonfat Chocolate Yogurt in six varieties: double chocolate, chocolate almond, chocolate banana, chocolate cappuccino, chocolate cherry and chocolate raspberry.
Our tasters found the double chocolate version to be thick like pudding and slightly tart. But unlike other yogurts, SnackWell's labels don't say the line contains live yogurt cultures.
SnackWell's has more calories per ounce (about 32) than ready-to-serve, low-fat chocolate puddings (about 25) but none of the fat. And they contain more calcium and protein than do light puddings.
A 6-ounce carton costs about 85 cents in area supermarkets. BEYOND POTATOES
LaPrimavera Cafe & Deli in Virginia Beach is offering a ready-to-eat polenta. Made by Nustef Foods of Ontario, the product is fat-free.
``You just heat and eat,'' says Chris Moy, owner of LaPrimavera. ``We mixed it with a little goat cheese and served it as a side dish. It's something different. Something other than potatoes.''
A 2.2-pound roll costs $3.69. REPRINTS GALORE
If you're looking for an old cookbook but don't need an original edition, facsimile reprints may be a less expensive solution, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Facsimile reprints are new editions of old books that sometimes contain indexes and glossaries not found in the originals. Food Heritage Press of Ipswich, Mass., offers many including ``The Virginia Housewife'' and ``What Mrs. Fisher Knows About Old Southern Cooking'' (said to be the first African-American cookbook).
