Old Dominion University and NATO's Supreme Allied Command Atlantic have formed a partnership designed to focus on the geopolitical resources of one another to further scholarly activity in Hampton Roads.
Following more than a year of negotiations, ODU and SACLANT entered into a formal relationship earlier this month.
They hope to create a series of high-level annual symposiums on international topics - the first of which is planned for fall - among military and civilian members of the community. A battery of additional roundtable discussions also is planned by the university's graduate program in international studies.
Other ventures include the establishment of student internships, faculty and staff speaker exchanges, tailored education support programs and international collaborative research opportunities.
``This agreement represents a new beginning and comprehensive partnership which we hope will be of major consequence to our national and international colleagues, their families and the Hampton Roads region,'' said ODU president James V. Koch.
Vice Adm. Sir Peter Abbott, deputy supreme allied commander Atlantic, praised the new ties as ``a significant stride forward'' and encouraged both organizations to ``rapidly activate the innovative partnership by immediately forging strong and effective networks.'' by CNB
