IT'S HOT. IT'S HUMID. IT'S THE ANHEUSER-BUSCH GOLF CLASSIC.

If the weather is scorching and the air is sticky, it must be time for the Anheuser-Busch Golf Classic.

The 19th annual A-B begins today at Kingsmill Golf Club in Williamsburg, but future participants may get a break from the heat. The region's only PGA Tour event brings 156 professional golfers to Virginia for four days of competition, with the final three rounds televised nationally on ESPN.

This year's field includes perennial favorite and two-time U.S. Open champion Curtis Strange, a Williamsburg native, as well as top-25 players Jim Gallagher Jr., Payne Stewart, Scott Simpson, Jay Haas and Scott Hoch.

Also participating are defending A-B champion Mark McCumber and brothers Lanny and Bobby Wadkins from Richmond. Other area players include Virginia Beach's Carl Paulson and former ODU golfer Jim McGovern. by CNB
