MAURICE J. TUCKER

Evangelist Maurice Charity Jackson Tucker, 77, of the 2200 block of Atlanta Ave., died July 12, 1995, in Portsmouth General Hospital.

Mrs. Tucker was born in Sussex County, Va., and worked as a self-employed nursing companion. She was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Portsmouth, where she was also an Evangelist, Trustee, and missionary. She was an Evangelist, speaker, singer, and composer of songs throughout Virginia and North Carolina. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter of Love and Hope.

She is survived by her husband, Henry Carrol Tucker; two daughters, Mable T. Howard of Portsmouth, and Maurice A. Sanders of Virginia Beach; two sons, Joseph E. Jackson Jr., and Dennis A. Jackson, both of Portsmouth; one sister, Hazel Wyatt of Waverly, Va.; one brother, Doctor Charity of Waverly, Va.; 14 grandchildren; and a devoted son-in-law, John Howard of Portsmouth. Mrs. Tucker was predeceased by both her mother, Delilah Massenburg Charity, and her father, Otis Charity.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday by Elder Marshall Goodwin in First Pentecostal Holiness Church, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon to 6 p.m. today at Serenity Funeral Home, Portsmouth. A Christian wake service will be held tonight from 7 to 8 p.m. at First Pentecostal Holiness Church. The body will be placed in the church by noon on Saturday. Family and friends will assemble at noon, 2211 Atlanta Ave., for the procession to the church. Wyatt & Sons Funeral Home Inc. handling arrangements.
