Robert Andrew ``Bubba'' Nicklin, 31, owner of a popular resort area nightclub in Virginia Beach, died on Thursday, July 13, at his home in the Landstown Lakes area of Virginia Beach after a long illness.
He was born on April 30, 1964, in Oil City, Pa., and lived in Warren, Ohio, and Oswego, N.Y. He graduated from Oswego High School and received a B.A. in communications degree from the State University of New York at Oswego in 1987. He came to Virginia Beach in 1988 and worked in sales for N.C.O.A. and Wayne Associates. In early 1989, he opened Bubba's Beach Club on Laskin Rd.
He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and Norfolk Fraternal Order of Police Associates Lodge (NU)3 as well as the Virginia Hospitality and Travel Industry Association. He was active in the local cancer community, having sponsored an annual golf tournament to benefit cancer patients and their families at Virginia Beach General Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 7 years Courtney (Grace) Nicklin; his parents Joseph and Barbara A. Nicklin of Virginia Beach; a sister Barbara J. Nicklin of Virginia Beach; a sister and nephew Rebecca King and Andrew King of Canisteo, N.Y.; his paternal grandfather, Paul J. Nicklin of Oil City, Pa.; and his maternal stepfather, Howard Scott of Oil City, Pa.
A memorial service and ``Celebration of Life'' party will be held at the officer's club at Dam Neck Naval Base on Monday July 17 from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Hors d'oeuvres, refreshments and music will be provided. Dress is casual.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Robert ``Bubba'' Nicklin Cancer Information Library at Virginia Beach General Hospital, 1060 First Colonial Rd., Virginia Beach, Va. 23454.
