ROBERT WAYNE HOLMES

Robert Wayne Holmes, 49, a native of Isle of Wight County, died Friday, July 7, 1995, at his home in California. Wayne was a graduate of Westside High School, Smithfield and Elizabeth City State University, N.C. He was a Peace Corp volunteer and served a mission in Jamaica, prior to becoming a resident of California. He was employed with the California School System, as a teacher at San Gabriel High School, San Gabriel, Calif., and coached football. Wayne was preceded in death by his mother, Cecelia Parham Holmes.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Holmes of Hacienda Heights, Calif.; his father, Quincy Holmes of Smithfield; two sisters, Alice Pearman of Orange, N.J. and Ola Diggs of Smithfield; four brothers, Joe Sidney Holmes of Ann Arbor, Mich., Darcell Holmes of Baltimore, Md., Darnell Holmes of Ontario, Canada, Kenneth Griffith of Suffolk, Va. and a host of other relative and friends.

The Rose Hill Memorial Park Funeral Honme, Whittier, Calif. is in charge of the arrangements. Final rites and interment were held July 13 at 3:45 p.m. in California.
