REDS THE FIRST UNBEATEN BRONCO TEAM IN 10 YEARS

The Great Bridge Bronco Reds defeated the Dodgers, 10-9, in the final game of the year in the Great Bridge Baseball Association, completing a perfect 17-0 season for the Bronco Division's first undefeated team in 10 years.

The group of 11- and 12-year-olds dominated the competition throughout the season, outscoring their opponents by an average of eight runs per game. The Reds failed to score at least 10 runs just twice during the season - a 9-5 win over the Angels and a 3-1 win over the Blue Jays.

The Reds cruised to a 15-0 record, then had to battle their last two opponents to remain undefeated. The team scored a close one-run win over the Braves, 13-12, then faced the Dodgers in the season-ender.

In that game, the Reds went out to a 7-2 lead after two innings, but the Dodgers rallied to tie the game at 9 in the top of the seventh on two unearned runs. The Reds tightened down, scoring a run in the bottom half of the seventh to complete their storybook season.

The Reds finished with a .506 team batting average and a 2.64 team earned-run average. Four players were named to the division's all-star team - Nick Campen, Brandon Norvell, Jeff Poindexter and Braden Sawyer.

The team is managed by Merrill Norvell. Lee Sawyer and Larry Hendricks are the assistant coaches.

The complete roster for the Reds is as follows:

11-year-olds - Nick Campen, Aaron Evans, Larry Hendricks, Nathan Hilton, Eric Trotman and Jameson Williams.

12-year-olds - Travis Byrum, Philip Mitchell, Brandon Norvell, Jeff Poindexter, Braden Sawyer and Jonathan Zellner. by CNB
