On Thursday July 13, 1995, God in his infinite mercy had His way and in His Wisdom called Leroy Henry Stevens home to rest.
Leroy was born Sept. 14, 1940 in Norfolk, Va. He later moved to Jersey City, N.J. and lived there for 28 years. He was an employee for Olympic Bus Service for many years. He was loved by everyone he came in contact with.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Helen Stevens; his mother, Virginia Stevens; six daughters, Veronica Spruill, Barbara Chapman, Connie Stevens, Victoria Howell, Rosa Griffin and Casandra Griffin; two sons, Leroy Henry Stevens Jr. and Alphonso Griffin; five sisters, Hattie Anderson, Peggy Hampton, Gladys Harris, Elizabeth Luster and Bernice White; two brothers, Hebert and Jesse Stevens. He has eleven grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, cousins and others relatives and a special friend Josephine Griffin. Leroy was predeceased by his father, Williams Henry Stevens.
A viewing will be held 7 to 8 p.m. today in Hale Funeral Home. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home. A funeral procession will leave from 603 Tidewater Drive to the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family will be at 1333 Debbs Lane, Chesapeake, after the burial, 436-1367.
