``Alice and Carol'' (Daily Break, July 6) was remarkable in its sensitive and honest treatment of their story. These women have shown great courage and love by allowing us into a part of their lives. We are fortunate to have such people in our community.
With bigotry and self-serving rhetoric so evident in the Christian Coalition and many political platforms, it is refreshing to see an article depicting one of the thousands of gay and lesbian relationships founded on spirituality, mutual support, commitment and love.
We live in a world where a 13-year-old girl can be tortured and killed by her parents for not wearing a veil on her face (news, July 11). And here in America, gay and lesbian people suffer countless injustices because of religious bigotry, homophobic laws and intolerance to diversity.
I am grateful for the help at removing the veil that keeps others from seeing us as we really are: your sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, co-workers; your doctor, lawyer, priest; the person next door. Just people.
