JOHN L. MARSHALL

John Lewis ``Johnny'' Marshall, 48, of the 1400 block of Cole Drive, died July 15, 1995, in Richmond, Va.

He was a native of Glen Ridge, N.J., and was a Police Detective with the City of Virginia Beach for 17 years. He was a member of Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church in Norfolk and was on the church's Men's Day Committee and also was a volunteer usher. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Policemen's Benevolent Association, past president of the Minority Police Officer's Support Group, the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators, and the Eva Gardens Civic League. He had received the honor of Master Police Officer and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Bennie L. Marshall; two sons, John D. Marshall, and Jeffrey D. Marshall, both of Chesapeake; his mother, Coralee Brown of Norfolk; his father, John Albert Elliott of Lynchburg, Va.; his mother-in-law, Ernestine Davis of Norfolk; six sisters, Theresa B. Coleman, Yvonne Elliott, Rene Stallings, Avis Elliott, Janice Jefferson and Tracy Jones; three sisters-in-law, Vera Edelin, Joyce Davis and Judy Davis; three brothers, Luther L. Brown, Bruce Elliott and Gary Jones; four brothers-in-law, William Davis, Larry Stallings, Steven Jones and William Edelin; his grandmother, Mary Young of Norfolk; Mr. and Mrs. George Canada, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Elliott, Mrs. Christine Wheeler; beloved nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Marion Davis.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. today in Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, Norfolk, by Dr. Raymond Dean. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. Remains will lie in state from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Viewing was Tuesday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and today from 9 to 10 a.m. Family will receive friends and relatives at the home and will assemble there at noon for the procession to the church. E.A. Hughes Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
