ELLEN W. CARAWAN

Ellen Winfield Carawan, 66, of the 1500 block of Mill Dam Road, died July 18,1995.

She was a secretary for the Chamber of Commerce, Belhaven, N.C., and was born in Roduco, North Carolina. She was a member of St. Claire Church of Christ, Bath, N.C., and she was also a Watch Care Member of Virginia Heights Baptist Chruch, Norfolk, Va. She was the widow of Walter Webster Carawan.

She is survived by three daughters, Glenda Lutz of Virginia Beach, Gwen Dixon of Lebanon, Ohio, and Mary Elks of Chocowinity, N.C.; three sons, Elwood R. Carawan of Norfolk, Jeffrey K. Carawan and Donald E. Carawan, all of Virginia Beach; one sister, Betty Lou Sadler of Belhaven, N.C.; two brothers, Claxton Doughtie of Portsmouth and William Doughtie of Norfolk; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday by Reverend George Boyd in Virginia Heights Baptist Church, Norfolk. Place of burial is Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. The family will be at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, this evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Virginia Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, 1251 Kempsville Road, Norfolk, Va. 23502.
