VETERAN COUNCILMAN WON'T RUN AGAIN

W.L. ``Pete'' Hooker, a city councilman for 14 years, said Wednesday he will not run again.

``It's time for somebody else,'' said Hooker, 67. ``I have served my time. I did everything I could for people. I worked for people.

``I've had it. I'm burned out.''

Hooker, currently mayor pro tem, won't be officially out of the race until the filing deadline passes on Aug. 4. But the widely known used-car dealer said, ``I'm not gonna change my mind.''

Former City Councilman Zack Robertson has filed to fill Hooker's 2nd Ward seat.

Also Wednesday, Realtor Donald Ys Cherry filed for a council seat in the 1st Ward.

The current 1st Ward Councilman up for re-election, David P. Bosomworth, is expected not to run because he is moving just outside the city limits.

Also up for re-election are council members Myrtle Rivers in the 4th Ward and Jimi Sutton in the 3rd Ward, and Mayor H. Rick Gardner.

Rivers and Gardner have filed.
