POWER CONSUMPTION RECORD

Virginia Power customers, seeking relief from the heat, set a consumption record Monday for the second time in three days.

The utility company's 1.9 million customers drew 13,548 megawatts from the utility between 4 and 5 p.m. Monday, breaking the summer record of 13,512 megawatts set Saturday.

One megawatt is 1 million watts - enough power to light 10,000 hundred-watt light bulbs or to power 250 homes.
