I take issue with Lawrence Maddry's statement that Robert McNamara's recent book, in retrospect, ``is an act of patriotism.''
Robert McNamara and General Westmoreland lied to presidents, Congress and to the people of America for years about the true death counts and the progress of the war in Vietnam.
McNamara's book is no patriotic gesture. It is a money-making scheme.
The deaths of thousands could have been averted had McNamara been an honest man instead of the hypocrite he was and still is.
