As a visitor to your area, I would like to tell you how pleasantly surprised I was to drive through various neighborhoods on July 4 and see every yard festooned with an American flag. I had never seen such a wonderful display of patriotism and was really impressed.
Upon closer examination, I realized that each flag was a gift from the Republican Party. Without regard to affiliation, the party wished each resident a happy Independence Day. I do not believe I have witnessed a better display of community spirit and cohesiveness.
You can be proud of the fact that visitors to your city were given such a treat.
I plan to take your idea back to Iowa with me.
