ROBERT. KOERNER

Robert A. Koerner, of Huntington Estates, died in Norfolk, July 19, 1995, after a long battle with cancer.

Robert was born in Hammond, Indiana, and has been a resident of Virginia Beach since 1965. In 1956, Robert was on active duty in the Air Force, stationed in West Germany, where he met his wife, Lore. He retired from Federal Civil Service and the Navy Reserves. He was very active in the community, volunteering at Sentara Leigh Hospital, member of Christ Lutheran Church Norfolk, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars post (NU)3160. He was also an active member of the Shriners: Virginia Beach Masonic Lodge (NU)274, Scottish Rites, Khedive Shrine-AAONMS, and the Khedive Drum and Bugle Corp.

Robert is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lore M. Koerner in Virginia Beach; his daughters, Susan Laine and husband John in Woodbridge, Va., and Gabriella Foley and husband Berry in Stuttgart, Germany; mother, Natalie Koerner; brother, Donald Koerner, sisters, Maxine Vargo, Ruth Ann Payne, Judy Koerner, and Natalie Nesavich, in Indiana; and his beloved granddaughters Nicole Laine and Michelle Foley; and devoted relatives and friends of Germany.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 1995, at 11 a.m. in Christ Lutheran Church of Norfolk, Va. by Reverend Elmer Medley. Burial with Masonic Rites by Lodge (NU)274 and Military Honors will be accorded at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. The family will receive friends Friday night at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, where a Veterans of Foreign Wars Service will be held at 7 p.m. and a visitation until 9 p.m. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
