Jake Porter, 81, of the 700 block of Regency Drive, a retired steel worker, died July 19, 1995, in Norfolk.
Mr. Porter was born in Rawl, W.Va. He retired from Berkley Machine Works after 40 years, was the widower of Lucille Porter, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was in the Battle of the Bulge.
Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Shrewsbury of Elliott City, Md.; a stepdaughter, Regina Marshall of Pompano Beach, Fla.; three stepsons, Gary King, Thomas King and James King, all of Chesapeake; five sisters, Carol Ward of Virginia Beach, Lydia Stuhr, Marie Amelia and Lois Sutton, all of Sacramento, Calif., and Katherine Baisdon of Shreveport, La.; three brothers, the Rev. Troy Hinkle, Clyde Hinkle and Bill Hinkle, all of Sacramento; and nine grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Troy T. Hinkle. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday and at 1952 Wolfsnare Road in Virginia Beach after the service on Sunday. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
