In ``A Virginian's plea: Protect us from deadly meat'' (Another View, July 14), Dr. Scott Wade states that contaminated meat kills 500 Americans annually and sickens another 20,000. Those statistics should turn some meat-eaters into vegetarians.
The time, energy and money being spent on the contaminated-meat problem would be much better used if spent on educating Americans on the healthiness of a meatless diet. Health-care professionals could be leading the way by encouraging their patients to stop eating meat and to begin reaping the enormous health benefits of a vegetarian diet.
