Jennie Wannamaker Belk, 95, died July 20, 1995, in Alexandria where she had been a resident of the Goodwin House.
Born in St. Matthew, S.C., on Jan. 4, 1900, she was the daughter of the late John Skottowe Wannamaker and the late Lillian Salley Wannamaker. She was married first to the Rev. Dr. John Blanton Belk, the father of her children.
After his death, she married his younger brother, the Rev. Samuel Lawrence Belk, who also predeceased her.
Both husbands were Presbyterian ministers, as was their father, the Rev. George W. Belk.
Mrs. Belk is survived by four children, Lillian Belk Youell of Virginia Beach; John Blanton Belk Jr. of Tucson, Ariz., Jane Belk Moncure of Seven Lakes, N.C., and Barbara Belk Tinsley of Orange, Va.; seven grandchildren, John Rice Youell, William Nelson Youell, Jenny Belk Gupta, Katherine Wilkes Belk, James Ashby Moncure II, Mary Blanton Tinsley and James Whitfield Tinsley IV; four great-grandchildren, John Blanton Youell, Katherine Nelson Youell, Lauren Elizabeth Moncure and James Michael Moncure; and her youngest sister, Frances Wannamaker Smith of Clover, S.C.
A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Edward A. McLeod of Black Mountain, N.C., in Piney Grove Cemetery beside the First Presbyterian Church of Swannanowa, N.C., on Tuesday, July 25, at noon. She will be buried beside her first husband.
Memorial donations may be made to the Belk Lectures, St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 5200 Grove Ave., Richmond, Va. 23226, or to the Belk Scholarship, Up With People, One International Court, Broomfield, Colo. 80021. Miller Funeral Home, Black Mountain, N.C., is handling the arrangements.
