JOHN ALEXANDER

John Alexander, 51, of the 800 block of Walnut Forest Court, died Tuesday, July 18, 1995, in a Boston, Mass. hospital.

He was born in Charlotte, N.C., and was the son of the late Pressley and Elouise Hobson Alexander. He was a graduate of Davidson College in Davidson, N.C., and received a master's degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He had retired after 25 years as a nuclear engineer with General Electric Corp. He served on the national board of Big Brothers/Big Sisters and on the Human Services Planning Council of Schenectady, N.Y. In Great Bridge, John was a deacon of the Great Bridge Presbyterian Church, on the board of the Christian Resource Network, and on the board of Virginians Against Handgun Violence.

Survivors include his wife, Marianne Alexander; two daughters, Leigh Ann Evans of Waltham, Mass., and Leslie Alexander of Cherry Hill, N.J.; his son, Jeffrey Alexander of Cherry Hill, N.J.; one step-daughter, Ann Janine Montross of Great Bridge; two step-sons, Daniel Montross of Stillwater, N.Y., and Brian Montross of Great Bridge; one sister, Judith Bobo of Atlanta, Ga.; his step-mother, Cynthia Alexander of Charlotte, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Summer Montross.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Great Bridge Presbyterian Church by the Rev. John Payne. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, is handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Resource Network, the Great Bridge Presbyterian Church Building Fund or Virginians Against Handgun Violence, Box 1836, Norfolk, Va. 23510.

He is greatly missed by family, friends and neighbors.
