Dr. Samuel L. Banks died July 19, 1995, at his home in Lanham, Maryland.
Dr. Banks was a native of Norfolk. He was a noted educator, columnist, intellectual critic and an author of several books.
He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Harvey of Chesapeake, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Gayle Banks Jones, Mrs. Allison Banks Holmes; three granddaughters; his mother, Mrs. Fannie Banks of Norfolk; and three brothers, Arthur King, George Banks, and Rufus A. Banks Sr.
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 24, 1995, at Murphy Fine Arts Auditorium on Morgan State University's campus.
A wake will take place Tuesday, July 25, at 6 p.m. at Walker Memorial Baptist Church, 2020 13th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 26, 1995, at 11 a.m. at Walker Memorial Baptist Church.
