VERNON COWELL

Vernon ``Pike'' Cowell, 76, of the 2300 block of Broadnax Drive, a retired tractor operator, died July 21, 1995, in Chesapeake.

Mr. Cowell was born in Chesapeake. He retired from Southern States Fertilizer Co., Chesapeake, and was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Velma Griffin of Portsmouth and Linda Lewis of Chesapeake; five sons, Ralph Lawrence of Joliet, Ill., and Charles Lawrence, Vernon Lawrence, Antonio Lawrence and Melvin Lee, all of Chesapeake; a sister, Alberta Williams of Chesapeake; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, Norfolk, by Dr. Ronnie Joyner. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Metropolitan Funeral Service. Family and friends will assemble at 2321 Broadnax Drive, Chesapeake, at noon Tuesday for a funeral processional to the church.
