Melvin L. ``Buddy'' Harper Sr., 79, of the 3000 block of Sugarwood Drive, a retired machinist, died July 22, 1995, in his residence.
Mr. Harper was born in Old Norfolk County, now the South Norfolk section of Chesapeake. He had retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 25 years. He was a member of Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Church, Chesapeake, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth S. Harper; two daughters, Gloria H. Williams of Virginia Beach and Elizabeth Parker-Crank of Norfolk; two sons, Melvin L. Harper Jr. of Kodak, Tenn. and David T. Harper of Virginia Beach; a sister, Maria Kissell of Chesapeake; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. John Andrews. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and will be at the home of the daughter, Gloria Williams, 2949 Bray Road, Virginia Beach at other times.
