RUTH Y. PEEBLES

Ruth Y. Peebles, 80, of the 2000 block of Parker Ave., died July 23, 1995, in Maryview Medical Center.

She was a native of Skippers, Va., and was the widow of Hurley L. Peebles Sr. She was a member of Garden of Prayer Temple Church of God in Christ, Portsmouth, a member of the Nurse's Unit, Senior Choir, Missionary Board, Friendly Sisters, and Noon Day Prayer and Bible Band. She was a former member of St. John Baptist Church, Portsmouth.

She is survived by three daughters, Blanche P. Stockton of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; Evora P. Wingate and Jester P. Smithwrick, both of Portsmouth; three sons, Rochelle L. Peebles Sr. of Portsmouth, Henderson L. Peebles and Hurley L. Peebles Jr., both of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; four sisters, Daisey Moody, Dorothy Harris, and Bessie Young, all of Portsmouth, and Gertrude Williams of Providence, R.I.; 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; three daughters-in-law, Gloria B. Peebles of Mount Vernon, N.Y., Joyce P. Peebles of Portsmouth and Peggy W. Peebles of Chesapeake; two sons-in-law, John Smithwrick Sr. of Portsmouth and Benjamin Stockton of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday in Garden of Prayer Temple COGIC, Washington Street, Portsmouth, by Bishop L.E. Willis. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. Viewing will be at Corprew Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Thursday. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
