EMILY D. BOBBITT

Emily Derrickson Bobbitt, widow of William E. Bobbitt, died in Columbia, S.C., at the home of her daughter, Calvert B. Klopp on July 20, 1995.

Mrs. Bobbitt was born in Norfolk, Va., on October 20, 1920, the daughter of James W. and Emily Taylor Derrickson. She married Mr. Bobbitt of Rocky Mount, N.C., in Norfolk on February 7, 1942. For many years they lived at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va., where Mr. Bobbitt was business manager.

In 1969 the Bobbitts moved to Rockbridge County, Va., where they had a farm. Mr. Bobbitt died on April 19, 1990, and Mrs. Bobbitt continued to live at WEB Hill Farm until her death. She was an active member of R. E. Lee Memorial Church where she was a faithful participant in the Order of St. Luke. She was a long-time member of the Garden Club of Virginia, the Colonial Dames of America and the Junior League of Norfolk.

She is survived by two children and their spouses, William E. Bobbitt Jr. and Mandy McCormick Bobbitt of Greenville, Va., and Calvert Bobbitt Klopp and F. Michael Klopp of Columbia, S.C.; and four grandchildren, Miles C. Bobbitt, Alexander W. Bobbitt, Emily B. Klopp and Margaret E. Klopp. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Barbara Derrickson of Norfolk, Va., and Mary Wood Bobbitt and Anita Bobbitt of Rocky Mount, N.C.

A memorial service was held at R. E. Lee Memorial Episcopal Church in Lexington on Saturday, July 22, 1995, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to R. E. Lee Church, Lexington, Va. Interment was in Pine View Cemetery in Rocky Mount, N.C., at 2 p.m. Sunday.
