A 36-year-old man was killed Sunday night after his car struck a building on the south island of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, state police said.
Christopher P. Hayzlip of Hampton had just come out of the tunnel about 9:20 p.m. and had traveled into a turn space when his 1993 Hyundai smashed into the back of the ventilation building at high speed. He was killed upon impact.
Hayzlip was wearing a seat belt, state police said.
Alcohol did not appear to be a factor.
A state police spokesman said the death was accidental.
Hayzlip was in the Navy and was temporarily assigned to the Norfolk Naval Exchange.
