WILSON INJURES SAME DISC THAT CAUSED HIM WOES IN 1992

The medical news couldn't have been worse for Washington Redskins defensive tackle Bobby Wilson Monday.

Two MRI tests revealed that Wilson, a four-year veteran and former No. 1 draft pick, has injured the same disc that caused him to miss the final 11 games of the 1992 season. Redskins trainer Bubba Tyer said the club will keep Wilson in Arlington Hospital, probably for the next several weeks, while they treat the injury ``conservatively.''

That means Wilson will be given medication and therapy initially in the hopes some improvement cam be made. If not, surgery on his L-5 disc would be necessary.

ONE DOWN, ONE TO GO: Cory Raymer ended his five-day holdout and came to terms with the Redskins on a four-year contract totaling $2.087 million. That leaves only top pick Michael Westbrook as the only unsigned draft choices.

Raymer, an All-American center from Wisconsin, was Washington's second-round pick. He received a seven-percent increase over what the Redskins paid last year's second-round pick, guard Tre' Johnson. Raymer will earn a base salary of $250,000 this season, and one-fourth of his $712,000 signing bonus, for a total of $428,000.

Johnson's total package last year was four years at $1.938 million.

Raymer's base salaries in years 2-4 are $312,500, $375,000 and $437,500, plus one-quarter of the signing bonus, or $178,000.

It was the Redskins' willingness to boost Raymer's signing bonus that finally made the deal. Washington general manager Charley Casserly upped his offer from $685,000 to $712,000 Monday.

Raymer's signing leaves $1.67 million for Westbrook. While Casserly said there is no quarrel between the sides over money, other issues still to be decided include signing bonus and contract length.
