RICHARD W. DAVIS

Richard White Davis, 73, died July 22, 1995, at Duke Medical Center, Durham, N.C., after a long illness.

Born in St. Louis, Mo., he grew up in New Rochelle, N.Y. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1943 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. During his career, he worked at GAF Corporation, Metal and Thermit Corporation, and Essex Chemical Corporation (a division of The Dow Chemical Company) from which he retired in 1991. He resided in Westfield, N.J., for 37 years before moving to Southern Shores in November 1991. A licensed pilot for many years, he was active in the Outer Banks Flotilla of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and was a member of the Duck Woods Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Janet M. Davis; three daughters and a son, Carol Yunker of Groveland, Mass.; Allison Parkes of Montclair, N.J.; and Christopher Davis of Plano, Tx; Melissa Grunwerg of Edison, N.J.; eleven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Outer Banks, corner of Kitty Hawk Road and Herbert Perry Road, one mile west of Highway 158, on Saturday, July 29, at 2 p.m. Friends may call at the home after the service at 138 South Dogwood Trail, Southern Shores. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the UUCOB Building Fund, P.O. Box 1006, Kitty Hawk, N.C. 27949.
