MARY S. HOLMES

Mary Sewell Holmes, 83, of the 7400 block of Hampton Blvd., died on Tuesday July 25, 1995 in DePaul Hospital.

She was retired as a clerk from the Norfolk Y.W.C.A after many years of service. She was a native of Jacksonville, N.C. and was the daughter of the late Lessie Olivia Henderson and Louis Douglas Sewell. Mrs. Holmes was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, where she played the piano in the Crusader Bible Class for many years. She attended Louisburg College and Earlham College. She was also an active volunteer at DePaul Hospital for over 15 years.

Survivors include, three daughters, Katherine Marsh Holmes of Virginia Beach, Susan Henderson Holmes and Martha Sewell Holmes, both of Norfolk; a sister, Annie Graham Johnson of Norfolk; two grandchildren, James McFarland of Hagerstown, Ind. and Heather H. Taylor of East Grand Forks, Minn; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial servaice wil be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 1995 in the Cox Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Steven E. Frazier. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Volunteer Services Dept. of DePaul Medical Center, 150 Kingsley Lane, Norfolk, Va. 23505 or to the Norfolk Academy German Exchange Scholarship Fund.
