A 21-year-old Portsmouth man has been arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death Monday afternoon of a Chesapeake man.
Robert L. Winfield Jr. of 31 Dale Drive also was charged with two weapons violations, felonious assault, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony and distribution of a controlled substance.
Police said Winfield shot Mark A. Martin, 22, of 907 Ohio St. in Chesapeake about 5:35 p.m. near 5 Wallace Circle in the River Edge Apartments.
Also shot was Ronald Curry, 38, of 3505 King St. in Portsmouth. Curry was listed in critical condition Tuesday at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
A police tactical unit was within blocks of the shooting scene Monday afternoon and was able to detain Winfield and two other suspects. The other two suspects were questioned and released.
Martin was taken to Maryview Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said they found 11 grams of crack cocaine in Winfield's 1988 Cadillac Seville. A handgun believed used in the shooting was recovered. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
