Pier fishing along the northern beaches was fairly slow on Tuesday. Anglers on Kitty Hawk Pier caught a few spot and speckled trout. On Avalon Pier, spot and a few blues were taken during the morning. But action was slow during the afternoon.
Nags Head Pier reported lots of blues caught before sunrise Tuesday, but little action later in the day. A few spot, croaker, blues and speckled trout were landed on Jennette's Pier. On Outer Banks Pier, some spot and blues were taken early in the day. The water was dirty during the afternoon and fishing was slow.
On Hatteras Island, anglers at Rodanthe Pier reported some nice big croaker and a few spot taken. Fishermen on Avon Pier caught some spot, croaker and mullet throughout the day. Some small bottom fish and a 16-inch flounder were landed on Frisco Pier.
In the surf, small bottom fish were landed at a fair rate from Corolla to Oregon Inlet. Along the beach south of Rodanthe, lots of croaker were taken. At Cape Point, a few Spanish mackerel, small blues and puppy drum were beached. Sea mullet were landed on the north side of Cape Point. Small bluefish were plentiful along the beach in the Hatteras Inlet area.
Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was slow on Tuesday. Some bluefish were taken, but most were too small to keep. Headboat fishing was fairly good, with lots of small croaker landed in the sound and some sea bass and trigger fish taken in the ocean.
In the Gulf Stream off Oregon Inlet, dolphin fishing was fair Tuesday. Charter boats reported some tuna and wahoo taken. But billfish were scarce.
Dolphin fishing in the Gulf Stream off Hatteras Island was good Tuesday. Wahoo fishing was fair. Blue marlin were released by the Tuna Duck, Bull Frog and Release.
Dirty water along the beach resulting from southwest winds should provide lots of small bottom fish for surfcasters today.
Water temperature at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Duck was 70.5 degrees Tuesday. by CNB
