Lucy Elizabeth Dew McLaren, 55, passed away at 8:17 p.m. on July 26, 1995 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with her family at her side. Lucy fought a long courageous battle against cancer and a heart weakened by chemotherapy.
She was the daughter of the late Charles T. Dew Sr. and Annie Sue Williams Dew of Conway, S.C. She attended schools in Conway and Aynor, S.C. She was a homemaker who was very active in her Christian ministry, and was invited to share her testimony by numerous churches in Virginia, South Carolina and North Carolina. Lucy was a member of Portside Baptist Church in North Charleston, S.C. She is now in the presence of the Lord whom she faithfully served.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald C. McLaren of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Sherry E. Bell of Conway, S.C.; a son, Hugh W. ``Butch'' McLaren of Virginia Beach; a sister, Frances D. Holmes of Charleston, S.C.; two half-sisters, Evelyn Thackery and Carolyn Chestnut, both of Conway, S.C.; three brothers, Charles T. Dew Jr. of Augusta, Ga., William C. Dew of Conway, S.C., and Thomas A. Dew of Socastee, S.C.; and her step-mother, Bertha Brown Dew of Conway, S.C. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. The family will greet friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Portside Baptist Church, 1179 Remount Road, North Charleston, S.C. 29406, or to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. After the service the body will be taken to J. Henry Stuhr Funeral Home, North Charleston, for services and burial.
