NATHANIEL B. DYER JR.

CDR (Ret.) Nathaniel B. Dyer Jr., died Thursday, July 27, 1995, at the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth.

He was born Jan. 18, 1934, in Teaneck, N.J., and was a veteran of Vietnam serving his tour of duty in 1966 and 1967. He was a graduate of the USNA, Class of 1956, and of the Naval War College, Newport, R.I., Class of 1975. He was the commanding officer of Fighter Squadron 41 Oceana Naval Air Station from 1973 to 1974. His decorations and medals include two Distinguished Flying Crosses, six Air Medals and five Navy Commendation Medals.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Davies Dyer; one daughter, Susan Lambert; one son, William R. Dyer, both of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Carlotta Zilliax of Milton, Mass., and Theodate Serbring of Leawood, Kan.; a stepmother, Carlotta Dyer of Massachusetts; an uncle, Grafton N. Smith of Jacksonville, Fla.; and one grandchild.

Services and interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Aug. 2, 1995, at 11 a.m. with full Navy Honors. Friends are invited to visit the family at their residence in Virginia Beach on Sunday, July 30, 1995, from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the donor's choice. Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
