U.S. Rep. Herbert H. Bateman of Newport News, R-1st District, was released Friday from the National Naval Medical Center after a week of tests and treatment for a mild heart attack.
Dan Scandling, a spokesman for the congressman, said Bateman is feeling fine and expects to return to his Capitol Hill office, albeit on a restricted schedule, next week.
Bateman, 66, was admitted to the hospital in Bethesda, Md., on July 21, after becoming extremely fatigued while at work.
In 1989, Bateman, a heavy smoker, underwent coronary bypass surgery. Since 1983, he has represented the 1st District, which extends from the Peninsula northwest to the outer suburbs of Washington. by CNB
