A city police officer is recovering at home after he was seriously injured in a crash Thursday night.
The officer, whose name wasn't released, was behind the wheel of a police cruiser that spun out of control, struck a tree and burst into flames on Military Highway near Rotunda Drive.
He was responding to a call for help from another officer about 7:15 p.m. in the Bowers Hill area.
The officer was treated at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for burns and cuts.
