ART NOTES - PORTSMOUTH

TIDEWATER WINDS: The final week of summer concerts by the Tidewater Winds Concert Band, including a performance Friday at Willett Hall, will feature the music of Broadway including selections from ``Silk Stockings,'' ``Funny Girl,'' ``1776'' and ``Fiddler On the Roof.''

Mary Ann Evangelista and John Reinhardt will sing selections from George Gershwin's ``Porgy and Bess.'' Evangelista also will sing ``One Fine Day'' from Puccini's ``Madame Butterfly'' and Reinhardt will sing ``All the Things You Are'' from ``Very Warm for May'' by Cole Porter.

The program also will include ``El Capitan'' and other marches by John Philip Sousa, who will be portrayed on stage by Joe Sutherly.

Kimbery Haywood, a xylophone soloist, will play Czardas by Monti.

The group is under the direction of Sidney Berg, Tidewater Winds founder and conductor, and Alberto Asercion, assistant conductor.

All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. except the Wednesday performance beginning at 7 p.m. They are free.

Concerts are at the Wells Theater in Norfolk, Sunday; Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, Monday; The Beth Sholom Home in the College Park section of Virginia Beach, Wednesday; and Willett Hall in Portsmouth, Friday.

FREE BAND CONCERT: The Tidewater Community Band will play at Trophy Park at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard at 5 p.m. Saturday.

The free concert by the 35-piece band will include more than 30 selections ranging from patriotic music to Broadway show tunes.

In event of rain, the concert will be held in the Command Briefing Room of Building 1500.

The concert is open to the public.

No chairs will be available, so persons attending the concert should bring a beach chair or blanket to sit on.

Soft drinks, light snacks and souvenirs will be sold.

Entry to the shipyard will be through Gate 3, just off First Street. Security personnel will direct visitors to inside parking lots. For more information, call the NNSY Public Affairs Office at 396-9550.

AUDITION FOR ``SNOOPY:'' Auditions for the first show of the Little Theatre of Portsmouth's 1995-96 season, ``Snoopy,'' will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Monumental United Methodist Church activity hall at Queen and Dinwiddie streets.

The production requires three male and three female actors and one mime/dancer.

Individuals who audition should bring their own sheet music. A pianist will be available. Call 488-7866 for more information.

PHOTO EXHIBITION: The Olde Towne Gallery will feature the photography of John Duggan on display throughout August.

An opening is scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 6, at the gallery at 341 High St. A string ensemble also will play and will feature ``The Scroll and Bow.'' by CNB
