MELVIN L. THOMAS

Melvin Leonard Thomas, 69, of the 3100 block of Joseph Ave., a retired electrician, died July 29, 1995, in Chesapeake.

Mr. Thomas was born in South Norfolk. He retired in 1988 from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 17 years, was a member of Rosemont Christian Church, the choir, Board of Deacons and a teacher of the John Morrison Bible Class. He was a member of South Norfolk Masonic Lodge (NU)339, Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies, Khedive Temple, Chesapeake Shrine Club, South Norfolk Ruritan Club and Old Timers Club of Chesapeake.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Poythress Thomas; a daughter, Jennifer T. Woodring; two sisters, June T. McHorney and Joyce T. Simmons, both of Chesapeake; and two grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk chapel, by the Rev. Robert Harrell and the Rev. Dan Jones. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park. The family will be at the funeral home from 4 to 5 p.m. today.
