LAWRENCE EDWARD GALLAGHER, JR.

CDR Lawrence Edward Gallagher, Jr., retired Navy Officer, retired Professional Real estate Company, died July 27, 1995, in his home. He served in World War II, participating in the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He served as an official on the Senior Military advisory command in Vietnam. CDR Gallagher was chief Staff Officer of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Group II, Fort Story, Virginia, from December 1969 through June 1977, where he made many significant contributions to the Atlantic fleet EOD community during its important formative years as a developing Navy Warfare Specialty. Additionally, he was elected and served two years as the first President of the Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Association when it was formed in 1983.

He belonged to Saint Nicholas Church. Survivors include his wife, Grace Dorey Gallagher, of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Dr. Anne Graves-Forren of Santa Barbara and San Diego; two sons, Byron Wesley Graves III of Norfolk and Dr. John Lee Graves, M.D., of Charlottesville, Va.; a sister, Madelyn Joan Gallagher of Miami, Florida; a niece, Patricia Bentz McGlothlin of Martin's Ferry, Ohio; a nephew, Edward Bentz, Jr. of Wheeling, West Va.; 3 Grandsons and a great niece.

Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. All services will be private. Arrangements by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Lynnhaven Chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
